HERE'S TO STRANGE & NASTY WOMEN

Dirty Girl, Inner Goddess, Mindful MediaLily MyersComment

Lately I only want to watch movies starring the strangest and coolest female heroines. It's so freakin' inspiring. We're never too old to have new role models; it's always healing and helpful. As girls in this world, we were taught that there were narrow and specific expectations for who we could be. So now I'm obsessed with giving myself new examples; watching women who refuse to conform, who express themselves boldly and don't care if you don't like it.

Growing up, I always wanted to be "nice". Girls are supposed to be nice, right? We're supposed to be gentle, caring, docile, passive. NICE. When a woman stops being these things (like, uh, maybe standing up for herself), what does she get called? A bitch. A nasty woman.

So I think it's time to embrace the title. I don't want to be nice anymore. Sure, I want to be full of love and life and light, but "nice"? I don't think so. I want to be strong. I want to be weird. I want to be strange and loud and gutsy. I want to be a nasty woman. Because nasty women get shit done. Nasty women refuse the constraints you try to put on them. Nasty women make their own rules. And that's the only way of living I can accept.

So here are my recent cinematic strange-woman heroines. Watch these flicks and you'll be positively BURSTING with inspiration...
